Enhancing Your Workflow Efficiency with the PhotoShelter and Photo Mechanic Collaboration
Over the years, we’ve partnered with Camera Bits’ team of developers to integrate into their “instant classic” photography tool – Photo Mechanic.
Photo Mechanic is an industry-leading photo editing and image browsing application used by thousands of photographers and picture editors to edit, organize, caption, and transmit photos.
According to their website and history of Camera Bits, when Dennis Walker saw how difficult photography workflow was he realized that improving the selection and editing process – then rather cumbersome – would make an important contribution towards digital photography overall.
Since 2015, when we talked with Dennis and his team at Photo Mechanic about its history and photographers’ evolving workflows, it would be great to touch base again with them to see how things have progressed since then. We thought it would be great to catch up again so we decided it would be great to hear how their journey is progressing!
Mick Orlosky has been with Camera Bits for nearly 10 years as Director of Marketing. We sat down to discuss his career path within the industry and how photographers can maximize Photo Mechanic, metadata’s potential benefits and more.

Please tell us more about yourself and your background before joining Camera Bits. What was the impetus behind joining our company?
My career has focused largely on digital media “fixing.” I have provided product management and/or marketing for numerous digital media companies of varying sizes; as well as freelance concert and event photography both as a hobby and for work purposes.
Camera Bits was an idyllic blend of digital strategy and my passion for photography; I found great solace within its amazing team.

Ten minutes spent prepping can save hours on the field. Where possible, combine steps when possible.
Use Keyboard Shortcuts!
I am continually discovering new uses for Photo Mechanic’s code replacement feature; I never cease to be amazed! A recent user request in our customer forum inspired me to find an automatic way of keywording season names (Summer, Spring, Autumn and Winter) into each photo as it arrives from its card reader – it took 10 minutes of initial setup work but will now happen automatically from now on without my intervention!
